Madonna announces Confessions II and returns to the dance floor
Madonna is heading back to her dance roots with the announcement of her new album Confessions II, set for release on 3rd July.
The record follows on from her 2005 hit Confessions on a Dance Floor, with the singer teasing a return to club-inspired sounds. Alongside the announcement, she has shared a first glimpse of the project through a trancelike visual teaser, offering an early sense of the album’s direction.
Describing the thinking behind the record, Madonna positioned the dance floor as something more than just a setting for music. Quoting lyrics from the album, she said: “People think that dance music is superficial, but they’ve got it all wrong. The dance floor is not just a place, it’s a threshold: A ritualistic space where movement replaces language.”
She also spoke about reuniting with producer Stuart Price, who worked on the original Confessions album, and the ideas shaping their collaboration. “We must dance, celebrate, and pray with our bodies,” she said, describing club culture as a form of connection and shared experience. “The dance floor is a ritualistic space. It’s a place where you connect – with your wounds, with your fragility.”
The album will be available to pre-order across a range of formats, including vinyl, CD and cassette.
More than 20 years on from one of her most defining eras, Confessions II signals a return to a sound and aesthetic that helped shape Madonna’s legacy – with a new take on what the dance floor can represent today.
