London Epicerie to open in Belgravia, for specialist foods and everyday groceries

London Epicerie, a new food shop founded by Raissa van Dijk and Jared Wybrow (owner of London Cheesemongers), will open on Ebury Street in Belgravia this summer. The shop aims to play both specialist food purveyor and general convenience grocer, selling seasonal produce, fresh bread, dairy, farmhouse cheese, charcuterie wine and pantry essentials in one location.

The business follows more than a decade of work at London Cheesemongers, where Wybrow and van Dijk developed relationships with producers across Britain and Europe. Their new venture London Epicerie aims to bring everyday groceries and specialist foods together, rather than treating them as separate categories, while retaining the provenance and producer relationships associated with independent retailers.

A small group of specialists will work across the different departments. The wine programme is overseen by Daniel Garcia Thomas, formerly head sommelier at Brat, focusing on growers with a connection to their land and spanning both established and emerging regions. Edmund Swinburn, a nutritional therapist trained at London’s College of Naturopathic Medicine, will advise on the shop’s approach to nutrition and everyday eating.

The product range draws on suppliers also used by London Cheesemongers. It includes clothbound Cheddar from Westcombe Dairy in Somerset and raw milk cheeses from Alpine producer L’Etovas. There’s also bread from Alma Bakery, ancient-grain pasta from Noja Progetto Agricolo, Tuscan olive oil from Piro, balsamic vinegar from Bonini, Maison Marc cornichons and charcuterie sourced through the Ham & Cheese Co, which has supplied London Cheesemongers for over a decade. The shop will also stock seasonal produce, small-batch dairy from producers including Long Lane, and coffee from Clifton Coffee Roasters.

The interiors have been designed by Deidra Hodgson, using light oak, stone finishes and an architectural grid expressed through shelving and display structures, drawing on the style of traditional European food shops.

The founders bring a range of experience that complements the new establishment’s ethos. Wybrow has worked in food for more than 30 years, beginning as a chef before moving into specialist retail at Neal’s Yard Dairy and opening London Cheesemongers in 2016. Meanwhile, Van Dijk, originally from Rotterdam, has a background in clinical psychology and has managed London Cheesemongers for the past three years.

“London Epicerie was created from a belief that people shouldn’t have to choose between convenience and quality,” the team said. “By bringing together trusted producers, transparency and expert curation, we aim to make better food easier to buy and enjoy everyday. We hope that small, informed choices can contribute to a healthier and more sustainable food system.”
