Foodie father figures: Ten London venues with special offers for Father’s Day

For anyone who might have missed it: Father’s Day falls this Sunday. If plans have been left to the last minute, London has no shortage of options worth considering. From brewery set menus and hotel roasts to a big Italian brunch, an Indian tasting feast and a Mayfair whisky experience, the city’s restaurants and bars have put together a varied spread for the occasion. The ten options gathered here cover a range of budgets and settings – from £29 to £85 per head – so there’s something workable whatever the vibe. Whether he’s after a relaxed brunch, a proper Sunday roast or something a little more considered, this is where to look.

Festa del Papà breakfast at Casa Italiana, Clerkenwell with Big Mama’s Gloria

To kick off the day family-style, Gloria Shoreditch is heading to Casa Italiana, the Italian community hub in Clerkenwell, to host a Father’s Day breakfast running from 10am to 1pm. Chef Antimo will be serving homemade tiramisu made with mascarpone and Marsala at £3 a portion, alongside focaccias and savoury breakfast dishes from Casa Italiana’s own kitchen. The event is framed as a neighbourhood gathering, bringing together local Italian families and regulars in the spirit of the Italian Festa del Papà. A selection of items from Big Mamma’s flea market might also be making an appearance, so impromptu gifts are in the bag.

Savoy Grill: Host & Roast for the big guy

The Savoy Grill is staging a Father’s Day experience that hands the carving duties to the guest of honour, rather than the kitchen. The Host & Roast experience centres on a saddle of lamb (sourced from HG Walter) that the hero of the day carves at the table in one of London’s most historically significant dining rooms. It’s available for bookings of four to eight guests between noon and 5pm, priced at £85 per person, and comes with the full accompaniments of the restaurant’s established Sunday roast menu. Each dad also leaves with a keepsake apron. This one’s perfect for families looking to mark the occasion with the ceremony it deserves!

Brother’s Bond Bourbon: An Old Fashioned for the old man

Every dad booked into Gold on Portobello Road, Langans Brasserie in Mayfair, ALTA at Carnaby’s Kingly Court or Moi on Wardour Street will be welcomed with a complimentary Brother’s Bond Old Fashioned. The cocktail is made with the brand’s signature bourbon, a four-grain expression – corn, rye, wheat and malted barley – with a flavour profile that journeys from baked cereal to honeyed sweetness and a mild nutty spice. The brand was founded by actors Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley, who have both taken active roles in production: Somerhalder oversees mash bill development and barrel selection, while Wesley works on flavour direction and portfolio strategy. So this might be a good one for the film buff fathers!

The centrepiece for larger groups is the Ale-Braised Thor’s Hammer, a cut designed to feed four to six people. Desserts run to Bitter Chocolate and Salted Caramel Tart, Elderflower Posset and Rhubarb Crumble with custard. On the day itself, dads dining at the pub will receive a complimentary pint, port, whisky or soft drink with their meal.
