Rise of the Footsoldier: Retribution will make its world premiere at the 2026 Edinburgh International Film Festival, marking the long-running British crime franchise’s first-ever appearance at a major film festival.

The latest instalment has been selected for the festival’s Midnight Madness strand, where it will screen on 17ᵗʰ August ahead of its UK cinema release on 28ᵗʰ August. To coincide with the announcement, Signature Entertainment has also unveiled a new teaser poster for the film.

Described as the biggest chapter in the franchise to date, Rise of the Footsoldier: Retribution sees Craig Fairbrass reprise his role as Pat Tate in a standalone revenge thriller set against the backdrop of 1990s Ibiza. After travelling to the island to avenge the murder of a close friend, Tate finds himself caught in a deadly conflict involving arms traffickers, mercenaries and the CIA.

The cast also includes Tamer Hassan, Leo Gregory, Jamie Foreman, Jana Perez, Ross McCall, Vincent Regan and Phil Davis, while professional dancer Vanessa Bauer makes her feature film debut.

Announcing the selection, Edinburgh International Film Festival CEO and Festival Director Paul Ridd described the film as “an adrenaline-pumping, full-blooded and relentless roaring rampage of revenge”, adding that the festival was “thrilled to world premiere the film in our Midnight Madness strand”.

Directed by Nick Nevern from a screenplay by Andrew Loveday and Nevern, Rise of the Footsoldier: Retribution arrives exclusively in UK cinemas on 28ᵗʰ August.
