Dwayne Johnson and Karen Gillan return for final Jumanji adventure
The world of Jumanji is no longer confined to the game in Jumanji: Open World, the fourth film in the blockbuster franchise and the final chapter of its current story, which arrives in cinemas this Christmas.
Jake Kasdan returns to direct after helming the previous two entries, reuniting much of the ensemble cast. Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan reprise their roles as the game’s larger-than-life avatars, while Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner and Ser’Darius Blain return as the teenagers behind them. Rhys Darby also returns, alongside Nick Jonas and Danny DeVito.
Based on Chris Van Allsburg’s beloved children’s book, the latest instalment turns the series’ familiar premise on its head. Rather than drawing players into the dangerous world of Jumanji, the game itself breaks free of its console, unleashing its creatures, hazards and chaos into the real world as the heroes face their biggest challenge yet.
Sony Pictures has unveiled the first trailer, offering audiences an early look at the film’s expanded scale and action ahead of its release later this year. Produced by Matt Tolmach, Kasdan and Dwayne Johnson alongside Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia, Jumanji: Open World is billed as the concluding instalment of the action-adventure series.
