Pearly Cow Margate fires up summer with new barbecue and gelato menus

The independent steak and seafood grill restaurant, Pearly Cow, overlooking Margate sands in Kent, has introduced two seasonal menus for this summer: an outdoor barbecue menu cooked on Big Green Egg charcoal grills, and a dessert list created in collaboration with neighbouring ice cream parlour Morelli’s Gelato Margate. Both offerings will run until the end of August, with the barbecue served on Monday and Tuesday evenings between 4pm and 8pm.

The barbecue menu focuses on Kentish produce cooked over the Big Green Egg, a ceramic kamado-style outdoor cooker. Dishes include Flat Iron Style Steak with chimichurri, Miso-marinated King Oyster Mushroom Skewers and Saffron and Paprika Chicken Skewers served with garlic yoghurt. Side dishes comprise a Potato Salad with Cornichons, a Panzanella Salad with burrata and charred corn on the cob.

The restaurant is also promoting cocktails to accompany the barbecue, among them the Seaside Martini, made with Boatyard Gin, vermouth, Everleaf marine and apple nori, and the Sage Soirée, which combines Tapatio Reposado Tequila with lemon, apricot, sage and vetiver.

The second addition is a dessert menu developed with Morelli’s Gelato, whose Margate branch makes its gelato on site each day. Options include a Knickerbocker Glory with strawberry and vanilla gelato, mixed fruit and whipped cream, and an Eton Mess made with crushed meringue and Kentish strawberries. An After Eight dessert pairs mint chocolate chip and vanilla gelato with After Eight chocolate. A sharing option, the Flight of Scoops, allows guests to select 12 gelato flavours.

The two menus join other recent additions to the restaurant’s weekly programme, including a burger night on Wednesdays and a Sunday brunch service.

Pearly Cow is part of a small independent group of open-flame grill restaurants with sites in Brighton, Margate and York. The business was founded by three brothers, Tristan, James and Tom Guest, and specialises in cuts of meat and fish sourced from around Britain, with a stated emphasis on ingredients produced close to each restaurant.

The Margate site is located at 42 High Street, in the town’s Old Town area and a short distance from the seafront. Margate has seen sustained growth in its hospitality sector over the past decade, with a number of independent restaurants, bars and galleries opening in the town.
