Kate Winslet, Barry Keoghan and Top Boy spin-offs lead Netflix’s new UK slate

Netflix has unveiled a major line-up of new UK shows, bringing together Kate Winslet and Maxine Peake for a new thriller, Barry Keoghan for a return to the world of Top Boy and new comedies from the creators of Derry Girls and Friday Night Dinner.

Among the new dramas is The Unheard, a five-part limited series starring Winslet and Peake as two sisters who go on the run after an act of vengeance goes wrong. Written by Jack Thorne and directed by Mounia Akl, the series will begin filming in 2027, with Winslet also serving as an executive producer.

Top Boy fans, meanwhile, have two new stories to look forward to. Keoghan will reprise his role as Jonny McGee in five-part prequel Jonny Boy, exploring the character’s origins before his appearance in the final season. Jasmine Jobson will also return as Jaq in a separate six-part series centred on her character. Both are due to begin filming in 2027.

Anya Taylor-Joy’s How to Kill Your Family has also added Clive Owen, Orlando Norman and David Shields to its cast. Based on Bella Mackie’s bestselling novel, the eight-part series follows Grace Bernard (Taylor-Joy) as she sets out to take revenge on the wealthy family who rejected her and her mother.

On the comedy front, Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee is heading into the world of competitive Irish dancing with Jig, a six-part mockumentary following rival dance schools on their way to the World Championships. Friday Night Dinner creator Robert Popper has Marbles, a family comedy starring Robert Webb, Timothy Spall, Alexandra Roach, Denise Welch and Louise Brealey, arriving in 2027.

Elsewhere, Naomi Scott, Josh Finan, Imelda Staunton, Nicola Coughlan, Toby Jones and Dominic West are among the cast of a new six-part series weaving together Roald Dahl’s short stories for adults, while the Sidemen are heading into the wilderness for Outside, a new Inside spin-off in which content creators compete to hold onto a prize pot of up to £1 million.

There’s live sport in the mix too. Beat Luke Littler will see 20 amateur players attempt to defeat the world number one at a leg of 501 for the chance to win £501,000. Gary Lineker hosts the live event, with Richard Osman joining as expert analyst.

With everything from returning Top Boy characters to a new Lisa McGee comedy and Winslet and Peake sharing the screen, Netflix’s latest announcements offer plenty to watch for as its new UK slate begins rolling out.
