Halloween all year round with Hungry Designs

Halloween all year round with Hungry Designs

What happens when you get a bunch of iconic women and throw in elaborate make-up designs? You get beautiful pieces of jewellery by Hungry Designs.

Hungry Designs is the brainchild of Amanda Whitelaw, an artist based in the Greater Brisbane area. Amanda returned to Australia after studying Illustration and Printmaking at Duncan of Jordanstone in Scotland.

“At Hungry Designs, we aim to create original, unusual jewellery to suit every style, taste and age.” From pin up girls and little ladies holding umbrellas to fierce zombies and ghouls Amanda believes there is something for everyone. She’s a huge comic book fan and collector, “American comic books are a great source of inspiration for much of the Hungry Designs range.” That’s clearly evident when you look at pieces like the Wonder Woman 2-Part Comic Brooch or the Cat Woman 2-Part Comic Brooch.

All the pieces are designed and hand drawn by Amanda and the brooches and accessories are exclusive to Hungry Designs, they can’t be found anywhere else. You won’t exactly find Snow White with facial artwork and a skull headband in your local Disney store. You do at Hungry Designs though.

Every item starts as a pencil illustration that is then digitally coloured and laser cut from wood. The laser-cut pieces are then fashioned into accessories and homewares.

If you want something for Halloween this year then you’re going to love Hungry Designs Day of Dead collection. If you’re planning on going subtle for this year’s spooky festivities then this Zombie Love Brooch is perfect.

Maybe you could dress up as a Disney Princess but with a zombie twist. If so, then this Day of the Dead Princess Belle Brooch will be right up your street.

Hungry Designs may seem a bit eerie and twisted but at this time of year when you’re thinking about all things spooky, the brooches are a great way of accessorising. Hungry Designs are mainly stocked in Australia but you can order them from the website or from Hannah Zakari. Hungry Designs are the perfect excuse to celebrate all things Halloween all year rather than just on the 31st October. Click here to shop the collection.
