Louise Buchan – a refreshing take on accessories

Louise Buchan – a refreshing take on accessories

After the latest fad of cupcakes and teacups, I felt like my sweet tooth needed refreshing and discovering Louise Buchan has done just that. After graduating from art school with a degree in textile and product design, Louise realised her talents lay within the field of craft.  She was able to gain experience in different designing fields, but it was in 2007 that Louise was able to start designing for herself.

Making a collection of accessories inspired by her fondness for tea sets and combining it with her interest in World War 2, Louise’s unique take on these areas is invigorating and exciting.

Her bags in particular represent parachutes which have taken special consideration to the shape as well as the stitching and decoration used. It can be instantly seen that Louise’s pieces are one of a kind and undoubtedly an added statement to any outfit.

Her jewellery is delicate and delightful. Trinkets and necklaces featuring both teacups and teapots are adorable and you cannot help but want every single one. With prices ranging between £8 and £280, you know you are paying for not only quality, but perfect craftsmanship too.

The progression of her collection sees an array of teaspoon decoration on purses and bags, which continually adds to the likeability of Louise’s work.  I also cannot forget to mention our favourite piece, the Teapot Spout Hook priced at £15.99, which is an absolutely genius idea and perfect to hang absolutely everything on. The random factor of this idea also adds to the inimitable and distinctive feel of her work.

Louise’s objective is to make her work stand out. By taking on unusual sources of inspiration, Louise aims to combine her ideas with making processes found within the UK. Her current collection features the use of recycled leather with hand-printed cotton. It hosts a series of leather collars, bags and bows which demonstrate both hard work and magnificence.

You can feel just by looking at the pieces that there is a clear perspective to her work and a clear focus in Louise’s ideas. Her use of local manufacturers throughout the production process is what makes her stand out above other designers and makes her work very exciting indeed. Why don’t you have a look for yourself?
