Press days are always a really interesting way to be able to see collections up close. Up in the Penthouse of the Charlotte Street Hotel, the Rebecca Taylor A/W collection hung stylishly on two rails, ready for people to admire the interesting use of mixed fabrics, lace and delicious knitwear.

A collection where there is a piece for everybody, the garments ranged from the snug and classic knitted jumpers (or sweaters) with a bobbled, modern edge, to the pleated, drifting maxi gowns in emerald, to the sexy and sweet mini dresses.  Being an A/W collection, the palette was muted in tones of grey, deep blue and charcoal with electric blue and green accenting the collection throughout and the use of lots of little details that pulled the whole collection together.

Standout pieces included the school uniform-inspired dress, which fitted at the top with inserted leather panelling, really completing the dress. The idea of leather additions and mixing fabrics was seen in garments throughout the collection, some of which had a slight baseball jacket idea threading them together. The white silk top with black arms and neckline and the grey leopard print fur-effect jacket with leather sleeves looked forward-thinking and stylish, interpreting the classic baseball uniform in a fresh, modern way.

A print that was used in more dressy items in the collection was a really nice sequin-style print that was resplendent in blue and golden tones. The print looked youthful, mixed with a halter-style neckline and panelled sides, used in conjunction with actual sequins, which were layered on the top of one dress: very eye-catching. Real sequins were used elegantly on dark blue for a very “cocktails in New York” feel. The deep blue and golden sequins would look gorgeous when worn with one of the cream knits from the collection.

A neckline that is being seen more and more often is a halter neck swim suit style and it was used perfectly on a few of the mini dresses, such as the blue dress with a lace neck detail – there was an electric blue trim, which echoed the style of the school uniform type dress, but was much more vibrant. A collection to keep an eye out for – you will want it all! To see more click here.
