London wine and spirits merchant Berry Bros & Rudd has launched its first spirits advent calendar, a £200 collection of 25 miniature Scotch whiskies for the countdown to Christmas. The calendar is sold through the brand’s website and is aimed at whisky drinkers keen to sample a range of drams over the festive period.

The calendar contains 25 bottles of 3cl each, selected by the company’s in-house team. Together they hold 75cl of whisky – slightly more than a standard 70cl bottle, which works out at £8 per miniature. Each whisky comes from a selected cask, and the collection is designed to show the diversity and history of Scotch whisky through a variety of expressions and styles.

So far the company has highlighted two whiskies in the selection, an older vintage from the Speyside distillery in the form of a 1979 Benrinnes and a 2008 Glenburgie, also from the same region, which has been finished in Marsala casks to give notes of the fortified wine from Sicily.

Berry Bros & Rudd is a family-owned business best known for its range of expertly selected fines, alongside a range of spirits including whiskies bottled from casks it selects itself. The team is presenting the calendar as an ideal gift for whisky enthusiasts to mark the run-up to Christmas. It joins a growing number of advent calendars for drinks such as whisky, gin and wine, which have become a regular part of the festive gift market.
