Rebecca Desnos — the creation of a natural textile heaven

Rebecca Desnos — the creation of a natural textile heaven

Here at The Upcoming, we are always on a never-ending quest to find something new and interesting. This week, we discovered Rebecca Desnos and couldn’t wait to share her talents with you.

The label itself is based around designing and creating a range of naturally dyed textiles. Designing everything herself, Rebecca hand-makes and dyes her products through her own means in order to add a special touch to her items. Making pieces from sustainable fabrics and plant dyes allows Rebecca to also embrace natural variations in each individual product she creates.

Rebecca previously worked as an interior designer, but found that working on a smaller scale was more satisfying and decided to create her own label. Born out of a search for “luxury, cruelty-free scarves”, Rebecca discovered bamboo silk, a material that holds beautiful drape qualities. Combining her findings with plant dyes, she experimented until she finally arrived at a place she knew she could call her own collection.

The collection features geometric scarves that have been dyed through a traditional Japanese technique called shibori (from shiboru, meaning to wring, squeeze or press). Rebecca has also crafted a series of clutch bags made from handloom organic cotton which, might we add, are absolutely beautiful. Inspiration for her work comes from slightly imperfect geometry. Signifying the colour, texture and pattern of each of her scarves gives this slightly “imperfect” approach. Marks from the making process also reinforce to the wearer that Rebecca’s products were made by hand, giving each of her designs character and a story of its own.

Rebecca’s work is stunning. What we like the most is the way you can find a clutch to match a scarf and automatically become a co-ordinated accessory dream. With scarves priced at £100 and clutches at £50, you can find yourself the perfect add-on for your favourite outfit.

Ensuring that she invests time in each piece really shows in Rebecca’s designs. Quality, not quantity, is key in her creating process and in doing so Rebecca has made a label that oozes with exquisiteness.
