A change of name for Hairy Sock

A change of name for Hairy Sock

There are times in life when a refresh is a good thing, so long as quality isn’t compromised. At Hairy Sock the products will not be in trouble when it changes its name to Ruta Kiskis.

Hairy Sock was set up in 2009 by Ruta Kiskyte. Ruta originates from Lithuania where she gained a bachelor’s degree in scenography at Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts. She went on to work for Bless in Paris and has finished a master’s degree in visual communication at the Latvian Academy of Fine Arts.

After such a diverse education, she then began Hairy Sock. The business started properly in 2011 after Ruta decided it was the right path for her. The Internet has helped her a lot because she got incredible feedback that she wasn’t expecting. Ruta is inspired by everyday life, from the tiniest invisible things or certain situations. She also likes to play with the context of jewellery and altering the juxtaposition of different things.

When asked what her favourite pieces are, she replied: “It is very hard to say which of the pieces are my favourites. I have un-pierced ears, but I am seriously considering piercing one because of the pearl bracelet earrings from the S/S13 collection. Those are bracelets made to look as if they are going straight through the ear. They could also be worn as an actual bracelet, that is made to look as if it hangs undone and is about to fall off (but it is not!).”

“I also love all the rings: sugar cube ring made of marble, a tiny mouth that is being fed a tiny pearl by someone’s silver hand, a golden man kissing a silver lady on the hand.” If Ruta struggles to choose one favourite piece then I am sure we would as well.

Head to Ruta’s new website and see that she hasn’t compromised on quality just because she has changed the name of her label. After all, some changes can be a good thing.
