Chelsea’s private members’ club, The Sloane Club, is opening its first ever public-facing space in its 104-year history this April, with the launch of Café 1922 on Lower Sloane Street. The new all-day café, bakery and evening wine bar officially opens on 7th April 2026, offering Chelsea residents and visitors access to a venue that has until now remained exclusively for members. Named after the club’s founding year, the space has been conceived as a neighbourhood destination built around handmade pastries, specialty coffee and low-intervention wines.

Café 1922 will operate from the outer perimeter of The Sloane Club’s existing premises, in a space designed by Russell Sage Studio – the practice responsible for the club’s recent £20 million refurbishment. The interior combines warm textures and characterful materials with large windows that open onto Lower Sloane Street, with outdoor tables extending onto the pavement.

The café will open Sunday to Tuesday from 7:30am to 3:30pm, and Wednesday to Saturday from 7:30am to 8:30pm, with menus transitioning from an all-day offering to an evening selection at 5pm. 

During daytime hours, the café will serve specialty coffee, breakfast dishes and light lunches alongside an in-house pastry programme. All viennoiserie and baked goods are made by hand each morning on the premises. Come evening, the space shifts focus to a wine bar, with a seasonal list featuring both established and emerging producers, available by the glass, carafe or bottle. Bottles may also be purchased to take away. A programme of wine tastings and intimate supper clubs is also planned.

Leading the kitchen is Executive Chef George Scott-Toft, who oversees menus across both Café 1922 and The Sloane Club. He is joined by newly appointed Head Baker Luke Walsh-Landles, who brings eight years of experience leading the bakery team at Boxcar Bakery in Marylebone. Together, the pair have developed a pastry programme centred on traditional techniques, seasonal ingredients and small-batch production.

The café’s signature item is the Sloane Pain au Suisse – a savoury, laminated pastry developed by Walsh-Landles, a reimagining of The Sloane Club’s Croque Monsieur, a members’ favourite that first appeared on the club’s menu in 1922. The pastry uses cross-laminated croissant dough and is filled with béchamel, smoked ham and a blend of Comté, Emmental and Gruyère cheeses. Only a limited number will be produced each day.

The Sloane Club was founded in 1922 by Princess Helena as the Ex-Service Women’s Club, originally established to provide accommodation, community and support for women returning from the First World War. The club was acquired in 2017 by Queensway, a family-owned hospitality group, alongside privately owned real estate fund manager Clearbell Capital.
