Seeing double: Rihanna and Rita Ora
We all know and love the singer/songwriter Rihanna, but not just for her incredible singing voice. Over the years, this talented young individual has struck out on an increasingly unique fashion path, capturing both street and a sense of her Saint Michael roots. However, it is hard not to notice the vivid similarities that can be found between Rihanna’s wardrobe and that of British newbie Rita Ora.
Admittedly, Rihanna’s look is one to be envied most of the time. Both she and Ora rock the blonde curls and the bold 40s eyebrows, even if some of the outfits have been a little hit and miss. The Topshop peace bralet paired with statement jewellery really works for these girls, but the same cannot be said for the mass blue effect. Ora’s trouser set and tie gives off a sense of someone trying to jazz up office attire and the collaboration of cuts is unflattering on even her perfect figure. Rihanna’s double denim attempt is not catastrophic, but a more subtle print on the trousers could have done wonders.
Ora may be a bit of a copycat, but both singers appear to get on well together, as they were photographed together recently having both previously mentioned in separate interviews that their supposed feud was created by the media. Roc Nation manages both artists and they have both found a look that works for them… it just happens to be very similar, down to the placement of their tattoos! In terms of skater beanies and backless black dresses, it is incredibly hard to say who works it better.
The mutual combination of Katie Eary’s Tiger T-shirt with a red pout and trainers is bold and works well for both, but Rihanna wins with her version of the Christian Louboutin thigh-high boot outfit. She’s got a great balance between the girl next door and fifty shades of grey inspiration! Ora looks beautiful in terms of hair and make up, but there’s just a little too much leather and a lack of shaping in this outfit.
Far from encouraging a rivalry, fashionistas should be celebrating the similar looks of Rita Ora and Rihanna. These singers are bringing streetwear back to the forefront of fashion houses and high streets, asserting a level of individuality and fashion bravery that is spreading to the rest of the population. We tip our hats to them… if anyone can pull off some of these bold outfits, it’s Rita Ora and Rihanna.
