Every so often a trend seems to hit the big time and take over, gracing our television screens, magazines, catwalk shows, red carpets and the high street.

Most recently it has been the turn of the monochrome checkerboard! It would be hard not to notice that this ’60s-inspired look is very popular this season but due to its bold and high impact design, it isn’t surprising some of us look away in fear!

Marc Jacobs created an art graphical extravaganza and feast for the eyes at the Louis Vuitton S/S’13 show, which has predominantly been the driving factor to bring the cheques back with a bang! Whatever your shape or style, there’s something for us all. The pattern appeared across mini, midi and maxi skirts, or you could even opt for some subtle accessories if you’re not feeling as brave.

Monochrome is currently as popular as ever and it certainly seems be the most commonly chosen colour palette right now. Think “opposites attract”. After all, fashion is all about contrasts. Recently seen worn by a host of celebrity icons including Kristen Stewart and Jessica Alba. Here at The Upcoming we think the look is strong and edgy yet feminine, the ideal way to break away from those countless winter layers and dark silhouettes. The perfect way to make a statement!

The hypnotic and repetitive print seems set to stay and straight from the S/S’13 catwalks to our high street stores, you too can achieve this look for a fraction of the price. Here at The Upcoming we’ve decided to make it even easier for you by selecting key pieces to achieve the look!
