Natalie Imbruglia has announced her new album Algorithm, set for release on 4th September, alongside the arrival of its lead single Upside Down.

Marking her first album in five years, Algorithm sees the Australian-British artist stepping into what she describes as “a new era” shaped by creative freedom and collaboration. Imbruglia co-wrote and co-produced every track on the record, working with contributors including MyRiot, Fraser T Smith, Gary Lightbody and David Sneddon.

Speaking about the album, she said: “I really hope that people get as much joy from listening to this record as we did making it. And that they dance their arses off.”

She also reflected on the personal context behind the project, adding: “This was by far the most fun I’ve ever had making a record. It also happened to coincide with the most challenging time I’ve had with my mental health… You can take something dark and turn it into light.”

The new single Upside Down introduces the album’s sound with bright synths and driving percussion, with Imbruglia describing it as rooted in “the inability to control my emotions… that fight to maintain a semblance of what some might consider normality”.

Algorithm follows her 2021 release Firebird, which marked a top ten comeback, and continues a career that began with the global success of Torn and her debut album Left of the Middle.

Alongside the album release, Imbruglia is set to perform a series of summer festival dates, including appearances in the UK, Spain, Sweden and Mexico, with further live shows expected to be announced.
