Stunning creations by the future faces of fashion at the RCA fashion show

Graduate Fashion Week is a huge deal in the fashion industry, as we get to see all the freshest new talent and the faces of fashion’s future. The Royal College of Art graduate fashion show is an independent event from the university, giving graduates the opportunity to show off all their amazing talent before they set off into the big wide, scary fashion world. Past graduates who have moved on to succeed include our favourite Christopher Bailey (CCO Burberry), Erdem, Philip Treacy, Julien MacDonald OBE and Elizabeth and David Emmanuel… just to name a few!1

The RCA graduate fashion show, which we attended on Thursday 30th May, showcased some amazing collection pieces by their students. Accented silhouettes in jewel shades, monochrome madness and sports x military were all trends that could be seen on the catwalk. With obvious influences from designer catwalks, we could see hints of Balmain from one designer, and other, less obvious glimpses of Burberry from another. One thing that was apparent was the sheer amount of talent we could see. Ranging from specialising in menswear to womenswear, to accessories and millinery, every creation was a stunning work of art – and the time and work that had gone into creating the collections was evident. 9

Outside the catwalk show space, there was a small exhibition showcasing students’ accessory creations. Work by student Rachel Jui Chi Chang stood out, as her exceptional wood shoes highlighted the genius and skilled craftsmanship of today’s youth. Iva Minkova was another favourite, as she had designed what appeared to be an actual glass slipper, with a red strap. The beautiful pieces and stunning creations, both on and off the runway, bring to the fore the genius of fashion, giving us hope that style will never die.
