Henrik Vibskov mens spring/summer 2014

Henrik Vibskov mens spring/summer 2014

Resisting categorisation, Henrik Vibskov’s unconventional collections steer clear of Scandinavian minimalism, and instead reflect his eclectic background in music, art, film and interiors.  The title of his Big Wet Shiny Boobies Collection might give you an insight into his unpredictable tendencies. As the only Scandinavian designer to show at Paris Fashion Week this year, Henrik Vibskov delivered another brilliantly executed presentation that simultaneously balanced art with commercialism.

Vibskov graduated from Central-Saint Martins in 2001 and quickly returned to Denmark to launch his own fashion line.  Due to his incredible craftsmanship and keen attention to details, he has since then won a long list of accomplishments including Brand of the Year in 2008, and has been featured in publications like i-D and Dazed and Confused. Vibskov is also an award winning film director, interior designer, and drummer for globally renowned electronic music producer, Trentemøller.  With designs as eclectic as his resume, Vibskov never fails to impress.

For his spring 2014 men’s collection, Henrik Vibskov mixed in flavours from southeast Europe, East Asia, and the Middle East to bring us a collection artfully inspired by the Byzantine Empire.  Full beards paired with slouchy tunics and fez hats upheld the designer’s intended aesthetic, while novelty bold prints, colours and backdrops brought an artistic air of modernity to the look.  In continuation of his fascination with prints, Vibskov brings us enlarged patchworks, over-sized shapes and optical illusions inspired by visual disorders and dysfunctions.  Henrik’s use of the primary palette with a strong focus on bright yellow and blue will surely drag us out of our neutral-hued woes of winter straight into our colour-thirsty highs of summer.  The brand is as playfully unpredictable as the man behind it, and despite dysfunctional inspiration, delivers a strong commercial wearability.
