Euphorium Bakery launches delicious Bank branch | Restaurant review

When a bakery has to request that its clientele “don’t sing with joy while eating” on all of its products, it hints that it is out of the ordinary. This is Euphorium, the British baking revolution customers have raved about since 1999. Basing their breads on six vital ingredients (flour, water, yeast, salt and “a large dash of sweet love and affection”), the passionate bakers know that what sets them apart from all other bakeries is the care and tenderness that goes into preparing their food.

Tonight’s launch has attracted inner city workers off the chilly streets of Bank and into the incredibly inviting warmth of the new branch on Threadneedle Street. The décor certainly reflects the Britishness of the bakery, and in the most charming way: black bowler hat lampshades dangle from the ceiling and products are sign-posted with polite, witty notices regarding our table manners (no plate licking, no singing with joy). Drinks for tonight’s shindig are also Blighty-born-and-raised – a British Bellini with aromatic apple and elderflower juice is a sparkling citrusy number that opens our taste buds for the evening ahead.

Euphorium Bakery caters for all of our needs. We are presented with an exciting range of meat sandwiches: Roast Beef Brioche and Suckling Pig in Ciabatta are freshly prepared before our eyes. The Scottish beef is succulent, with a sweet horseradish cream that really compliments it. We are also treated to various light alternatives; the Roasted Squash and Feta Salad is a tasty pleasure on the lips and not your average salad, featuring fresh, crunchy leaves, a squash roasted to perfect tenderness yet still bursting with flavour, and a tangy, creamy feta cheese combine to create an explosion of flavour on the tongue.

As well as all this, it has to be said that Euphorium’s most sensational products are its mouth-watering range of cakes and tarts – Lemon Tart, Chocolate Tart, Tropical Tart – we are really spoilt for choice (and have no option but to try the range). All are impeccable. The Chocolate Tart goes down a treat with customers – who could deny a rich, dark filling sitting on crunchy shortbread? Euphorium, expect us at your door every morning.
