When a country clothing company join forces with a major clothing label, you know something good will come from it.

Lavenham is the home of British quilting. They manufacture quilted horse rugs, diamond quilted jackets, quilted waistcoats and accessories. They are an English manufacturer of superior quality country clothing, horse rugs and accessories that pride themselves on sticking to the two innate attributes of quality and durability that have taken the brand so far since its inception in 1969. MICKFIELD LADIES UK28222 (1)

The two aforementioned vital components have allowed Lavenham to form an invaluable rock solid grounding to then set about venturing into a more fashion-forward direction that sets this brand apart from the young pretenders and competition. The brand was founded in 1969 and made the first nylon quilted horse rug, closely followed by matching quilted jackets and waistcoats for the esteemed and sartorially aware rider and country-phile.

YMC, or You Must Create, has spent nearly 20 years developing and evolving their unique signature look. Founded in London in 1995 by Fraser Moss and Jimmy Collins, YMC creates modern, functional clothing which eschew trends in favour of understated, wearable style. Inspired by industrial design hero Raymond Loewy’s reply when asked how he saw the future of design, that “you must create your own style”. This call to arms is the driving force behind the brand’s identity which brings fresh inspiration to menswear and adds a subtle dose of femininity to their typically androgynous womenswear. The ethos of taking a traditional item and reworking it to create something modern gives a timeless quality to the clothes, meaning they will last for seasons ahead.BOXFORD LADIES YMC281401 (1)

For spring 2014, Lavenham has collaborated with YMC. The Lavenham X YMC range includes both men’s and women’s styles. In the women’s range a blue hooded jacket and gilet with contrasting pink lining and quirky embroidered navy bubbles adds an exciting touch to the collection. In the men’s range, black embroidered bubbles contrast on an exclusive new quilted jacket.

So why did Lavenham want to work with YMC? Nicky Santomauro, Lavenham’s managing director, shed some light on this: “You Must Create is always a brand that we have admired, simple and effective styles and shapes using some of the finest materials and only collaborating with the best in their field. It was a pleasure to work with them.

Clearly this is something quite exciting and it will be interesting to see if they create a collection for winter as well.
