How to: Work the flared trouser trend

How to: Work the flared trouser trend

Whether you want to rock the boho vibe or create a slightly more preppy look, the new trouser of choice that everyone’s wearing is flairs! The 70s staple has come back around and we’re seeing this throwback fashion piece absolutely everywhere. The famous bell-bottom shape with a high waist, super tight from the knees up and then flared and very long, looks fantastic on almost any figure as it elongates the legs. Here are a few simple but incredibly stylish ways to wear your flairs, the right way!

Block colours

To make your flairs super 70s, wear them in a bold block colour. As we move into spring it’s important we update our wardrobe and inject some life and colour back into what we wear. This cute peachy pair are everything we want from our new spring staple and they work so well with the pastel blue shirt. For this style of flairs, contrasting colours are allowed but choose carefully, think navy and cream rather than fuchsia and turquoise!

Feeling brave

If you’re often bored of following the fashion crowd and would much rather make an eye-catching statement, a pair of checked flares like the ones featured here could look super cool and unique. Pair this style with a simple shirt or plain vest to keep the focus on the trousers, and avoid clashing colours or patterns. If the checks aren’t working for you, other bold, patterned prints are an alternative option.

Denim

Extremely versatile and easy to wear, denim flares are possibly the most popular choice. They’re available in a huge spectrum of shades, the ones featured here are black, and they can be paired with almost anything. What better way to rock the trend than throwing on a floppy hat to totally work the seventies vibe?

Tailored

Many people hear flares and only imagine that staple vintage boho style, but flairs can also be incredibly sophisticated, perfect for work or even a night out. Choose a much more tailored cut in softer silky fabrics to create a more chic look. Go for darker bottoms with a lighter top and pair the flares with a fitted crop top, or tuck a long top into the trousers. Dress the look up with a pair of heels for the evening, not only will this be more occasion appropriate but it will also make your legs look even longer – genius!
