Temaki to open new Mayfair handroll bar at the beginning of June

Handroll bar Temaki by r A.M. Dupee will open its new Mayfair premises on 1st June. The restaurant, which originally launched in Brixton in summer 2021, is relocating to a larger central London site on The Crown Estate’s portfolio, where it will serve Japanese small plates and signature handrolls inspired by the handroll bars of California.

The concept takes its name from the Japanese words te (hand) and maki (roll) and draws on the relaxed approach to Japanese cuisine found along the US West Coast.

While handrolls remain central to the offering, the Mayfair menu has been expanded to include a wider range of Japanese sharing plates. Dishes will include Crispy Rice topped with cuts of fish, A4 Wagyu Sliders, and a rotating selection of sandos and toro. The food menu will be accompanied by a wine list, Japanese saké and a short cocktail list.

The restaurant occupies two floors. The upstairs dining room seats 14 guests around a counter facing the open kitchen, referencing traditional Japanese dining formats. The lower floor accommodates 28 covers in a space modelled on Japan’s listening bars, and will also be available for private hire.

Commenting on the opening, founder A.M. Dupee said: “We loved our time in Brixton, and with our new creative team we are so excited to build on that success in central London, on Mayfair’s Maddox Street. We’ve been working on some fun new dishes and will of course serve our signature handrolls – I can’t wait to open the doors!”

Sarah McLaren, Hospitality and Leisure Leasing Director at The Crown Estate, said: “We are excited to welcome Temaki to the West End. It is a great example of a rapidly growing independent operator which is ready to establish itself in the heart of London. We are dedicated to supporting the hospitality industry by continuing to curate a portfolio of new, growing and established brands to cater to a diverse audience.”

Maddox Street sits within The Crown Estate’s West End portfolio, which includes Regent Street and St James’s. Temaki will operate daily, for both lunch and dinner services.
