The Wigmore is the latest luxury pub to open in London. Located on Regent’s Street, it’s set to become a new social institution: a place where everyone is welcome whilst conveying an upper-class vibe.

This deluxe re-imagining of the Great British pub serves a carefully created drinks list from the team behind Artesian (named world’s best bar in 2015) as well as wines, cask ales and craft beers including The Wigmore’s very own house Saison, brewed in partnership with Bermondsey’s Brew by Numbers. A variety of mixed drinks that celebrate Britain’s drinking history include cups of punch, gin and tonics (three versions), house “hoptails” and classic cocktails that have all been created in London.

The food menu is overseen by Michel Roux Jr is a quintessentially British pub fare, using seasonal ingredients from producers that are leaders in their field which are simply prepared and sympathetically cooked with a keen attention to detail. We’ve tried a few pub classics which the team worked hard to give a high-end twist to: the Masala Spiced Scotch Egg, the Stovetop Cheese Toastie (presented to the table with a cast iron bacon press to ensure cheese remains molten) and the Cheeseburger with grilled ox tongue and crispy shallots – in our opinion the best of all the courses.

A daily changing menu include Balvenie-whisky Smoked Salmon with honey-pickled onion and Wooster’s bakery sprouted rye, using smoked salmon created exclusively for the Roux family that is sprayed with 12-year Balvenie whisky; Ox-cheek and Ale Pie; Suet Crust featuring a specially created laminated pastry; and Paprika-glazed beef short rib with bone marrow and thyme crumb.

The former banking hall has been transformed by internationally acclaimed Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, capturing and enhancing the original features of the space. The main bar harnesses the history of the building by retaining the listed panelling and incorporating furniture in mohair velvets with silk cushioned detailing. A timber bar with fabric panelling and turned wooden chair legs alludes to the high-quality craftsmanship involved.

Two separate, semi-private areas have been incorporated into the space with a more relaxed ambience; guests will be able to enjoy the intimacy of the traditional snug, complete with mohair sofas, silk cushions and loose rugs and will be available for private bookings, ideal for groups and special occasions.
