Tennis fans tired of the manufactured rivalry between Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova will be pleased to hear about the release of Borg vs McEnroe, a sports drama focused on the truly legendary rivalry between Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe, which culminated in their 1980 Wimbledon Finals showdown. Boasting famous and famously eccentric star Shia LaBeouf alongside other known talents like Stellan Skarsgård and Sverrir Gudnason, this is director Janus Metz’s first feature-length film and opened the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival. The Upcoming caught up with some of the cast and crew at the British premiere at Curzon Mayfair.

We spoke to Stellan Skarsgård about his recollection of the famous match and how this film compares to his previous projects.

We also talked with Sverrir Gudnason about the challenges of preparing for the role and his time on set.

Janus Metz spoke about what inspired him to make the movie and his experience working with the actors.
