Pleasure: An interview with Ninja Thyberg and Sofia Kappel

Pleasure is a hedonistic, documentary-style drama set in the LA porn industry that explores the raw, authentic and explicit acts of the adult film business from a predominately female gaze.

The movie is the first feature from Swedish director Ninja Thyberg and follows Bella Cherry (Sofia Kappel), a young and ambitious 19-year-old who travels from her Nordic hometown to California to become the next big porn star. Viewers are invited into her naive yet determined narrative as she navigates boundary-pushing scenes, traces the narrow line between consent and coercion and ultimately steers spectators to re-evaluate what qualifies as the pinnacle of professional success.

We had the pleasure of speaking to Ninja Thyberg and Pleasure’s lead actress, Sofia Kappel, to discuss how they came to work together, how they permeated the adult film world and how important it was for them to convey the industry from an informed and female perspective.
