Dating has changed, and more people are delving into their deepest desires. People are no longer judgmental or frown upon new experiences. One form of dating that has grown in popularity is polyamory dating. While it could be considered relatively new, more open-minded people and couples are seeking something different. Despite this, thanks to online dating websites such as Tinder, Datezie, PolyDating – but there are also many aimed at specific communities such as myblackpartner – you know that this form of relationship will result in challenging the beliefs of monogamy but considering what you want from partners who want love and romance.

What does it mean to be polyamorous?

Not everyone is familiar with the term polyamorous, then it could help to learn what it means. Essentially, it involves dating with an open-mind whereby relationships take place in an open and romantic way without the commitment. It involves having relationships with multiple people at one time, breaking down the barriers of monogamy.

People who claim to be polyamorous can be of any sexual desire, and anyone can get together because it’s a form of relationship that encourages adventure. Everything about polyamorous relationships is based on consensuality, and everyone understands where they stand in terms of the arrangements.

What are the challenges of polyamory?

Polyamorous relationships are healthy, although they’re all unique. Despite this, there are challenges that come with this kind of arrangement. It’s open and intimate, with everyone involved agreeing to the situation.

Trust is vital because everyone must be on the same page. It’s important that any new partners are communicated openly while safe encounters are an absolute must. Having several relationships ongoing at the same time requires excellent communication. Some believe that polyamorous individuals are only interested in sex, but that’s not true. Talking about expectations and feelings is an essential part of it.

Don’t expect polyamory to become a “do-as-you-want” kind of relationship. Consent is vital because it involves everyone. Therefore, everyone involved has to consent to anything new, whether it be intimate contacts or a new relationship. Finally, respect is crucial because that underpins every relationship. This respect branches out to everyone involved, which also includes the partners of anyone’s partner.

Who is it right for?

While the idea of polyamory relationships might seem fun and exciting, it’s not for everyone. Therefore, before embarking on a polyamory relationship, it’s vital to understand whether it’s right for each person.

Jealousy forms a part of every new relationship, and it can creep in even when there are more people involved. So, people should consider how they handle jealousy because managing the feelings is crucial.

People who enjoy variety when it comes to sex might find polyamorous relationships right for them. Furthermore, is someone capable of handling the connections and emotional commitment with more than one person? For many, having one partner is enough, but if someone can manage intimacy on a personal level with multiple people, then it could be a fit for them.

Establish ground rules and boundaries

With multiple people involved, rules and boundaries are vital. If it becomes a free-for-all, then people’s feelings will get hurt.  One of the main factors of polyamory is everyone’s ability to work together, or, at least, mind everyone’s business with the utmost respect. Therefore, ground rules should include sharing information about every relationship, acknowledging each partner and each partner’s partner without jealousy. And ensuring that time spent with others is done so in a fair and equal way.

Intimacy is where things can take a wrong turn, so boundaries are vital. This involves putting rules in place for safe interactions.

Which celebrities have been in polyamorous relationships?

Many celebrities have been reported to be on polyamorous relationships, but just who?

Bella Thorne has publicly announced that she has been in multiple relationships, proving that it’s a way of life for her. Willow Smith, the daughter of Will Smith – one of the biggest Hollywood actors – and Jada Pinkett, said to be open to polyamorous relationships. Brody Jenner and Kaitlynn Carter were rumoured to be engaged in relationships with other people. Apparently, after openly discussing their needs, they took the plunge.

Polyamory is not for everyone but it can provide an element of excitement and intrigue. Of course, it requires rules, boundaries, openness, and the ability to keep feelings in check. However, for many, it provides a unique way to keep life fresh and exciting at the same time.
