BIFA 2022 nominations: Interviews with Sam Claflin, Kosar Ali, Rosy McEwen and Kila Lord Cassidy | Movie review

This week, the shortlisted nominees for the British Independent Film Awards 2022 were announced. The Upcoming were there at Everyman Broadgate to hear who from the British indie film world might be in the running for one of the prestigious awards and chat with some of the nominees.

Actor Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games, Journey’s End) and BIFA-winner Kosar Ali (Rocks, Dangerous Liaisons), who were there to present the nominations, gave their reflections on the talent shortlisted this year, the health of the British indie film industry and the part it has played in their own careers.

We also spoke to two of the nominees shortlisted for the Breakthrough Performance award. Rosy McEwen told us how she felt to be nominated, a bit about the story and character she plays in Blue Jean and the importance of LGBTQ+ representation on screen, particularly reflecting the specific experience of lesbians with authenticity.

Kila Lord Cassidy then shared her experience of working on The Wonder with director Sebastian Lelio alongside her mother (playing her mother) and opposite the incredible Florence Pugh.
