“In season two, you can really see the strength and stability in these friendships”: The cast of Fate – The Winx Saga on season two

Fate: The Winx Saga slides into its second season after becoming a popular YA teen take-off from the original Italian animated series, Winx Club. This new live-action adaptation bases its characters on those in the Nickelodeon cartoon, bringing to life the trials and tribulations of a group of fairies who enrol at a magical boarding school, called Alfea, in the Otherworld.

Each fairy who joins has their own mystical power, from a fire fairy through to a water fairy. They soon learn to share their pasts, their personal space and their powers, whilst navigating through the usual teenage angst, and then, in addition, the threat of the Burned Ones infiltrating the safety of their school.

The Upcoming had the pleasure of speaking to the cast of The Winx Saga as they talked to us about their roles in the series and their experiences on-set. Paulina Chávez and Elisha Applebaum told us about their magical powers and the appeal of the YA genre of magic and drama.

Abigail Cowen and Precious Mustapha then shared their experiences developing their roles in season two, and what it was like to work with this ensemble cast.

We also chatted with Eliot Salt and Hannah van der Westhuysen about memorable moments on-set, and the appeal and challenges of adapting the original Italian animated series.
