Just landed are the trailer and poster for The Persian Version, set to hit UK cinemas on 22nd March 2024. Directed and written by Maryam Keshavarz, the movie promises to deliver an engaging and heartfelt portrayal of the Iranian and Iranian-American experience through the lens of its protagonist, Leila.

Leila, played by Layla Mohammadi, is caught between her dual heritage, striving to maintain a balance while challenging the societal labels thrust upon her. The narrative unfolds as her family gathers in New York City for her father’s heart transplant, revealing the complexities of Leila’s life and drawing parallels with her mother Shireen’s experiences, portrayed by Niousha Noor. Starring alongside Mohammadi and Noor are Kamand Shafieisabet, Bijan Daneshmand, Bella Warda, Chiara Stella, Tom Byrne, and Shervin Alenabi.

With a vibrant mix of comedy, dance and a bright colour palette, The Persian Version won the Audience Award and Best Screenplay Award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The film has been celebrated for its unapologetic protagonist and its intelligent storytelling, resonating with audiences and critics alike.

The Persian Version stands as a testament to the power of storytelling in bridging cultures and exploring identity, and looks set to make an impact upon its release here in the UK. Check out the brand-new trailer below.
