PRELUDE by Oriole opens in Covent Garden

In a fresh addition to London’s vibrant hospitality scene, PRELUDE by Oriole has officially opened its doors in The Yards, Covent Garden. This three-month pop-up restaurant, bar, and innovation space arrives courtesy of the team behind the acclaimed cocktail bars Oriole, Nightjar, and Bar Swift. As a precursor to the launch of Oriole’s second permanent site later this summer, PRELUDE harmonises food and drink under the direction of Argentine Head Chef Gustavo Giallionardo.

The pop-up marks a significant shift for the Oriole brand, as it places an equal emphasis on both its cocktail offerings and a la carte food menu for the first time. Giallionardo’s menu draws from a rich tapestry of Latin American gastronomic traditions, integrating ingredients and techniques from around the world, including Nikkei and Argentine-Italian cuisines. Diners can expect a creative assortment of dishes that feature particular combinations such as Oyster and Amarillo Chilli; Raw Scallop, Kiwi, Edamame Agua Chile, and Pumpkin, Peanut Sambal, Green Curry Ice Cream.

Bar Manager Samet Ali complements the culinary adventure with a meticulously curated cocktail list. Among the standout creations is the Mizuwari, a complex blend featuring 12-year-old Highland Park whisky, chocolate miso, amontillado sherry, and several other distinctive ingredients.

The design of the 34-cover restaurant and bar space echoes the natural world, with a colour palette that ranges from warm browns to deep greens, plush seating, brass accents, and subtle lighting, creating an ambiance that is both elegant and inviting. Live jazz music adds to the allure, offering a sophisticated backdrop to the gastronomic and mixological explorations.

Edmund Weil, Director of Speakeasy Entertainment, shared his enthusiasm for Oriole’s new chapter, highlighting the significance of settling in The Yards at the heart of Covent Garden. The move is seen as a strategic step forward in establishing The Yards as a premier mixed-use, day-to-night destination within the bustling area.

PRELUDE by Oriole is now welcoming guests from Wednesday to Saturday, initiating a three-month journey set to pave the way for Oriole’s much-anticipated permanent location.
