Simon Rogan’s farm-to-table dining experience returns this summer

In the picturesque Lake District, Simon Rogan’s acclaimed dining extravaganza, A Day at Our Farm, is set to return for its second season this summer, following its crowning as the Best Farm-to-Table Restaurant at the Good Food Guide Awards 2024. Scheduled to run from June to September, the event offers an unparalleled opportunity to dine amidst the verdant growing beds and polytunnels of Rogan’s regenerative farm in Cartmel Valley. The experience begins with a comprehensive farm tour, accompanied by curated snacks, and culminates in an al fresco feast that showcases the very best of the season’s harvest, directly from soil to plate.

Simon Rogan, the mastermind behind the event, has extended an invitation to discuss the inspirations behind the project. Additionally, insights into the innovative recipes and preservation techniques employed can be gleaned from conversations with Our Farm’s Head Chef Liam Fitzpatrick, known affectionately as the Pickle Prince, and Head Farmer John Rowlands, who plays a pivotal role in managing the farm that supplies produce to Rogan’s constellation of multi-Michelin starred restaurants.

This culinary journey is not just about indulging in the freshest farm produce but also delves into the sustainable practices and zero-waste mission that underpin Rogan’s farming and philosophy. The event series, offering both dinner and lunch options on select Mondays and Tuesdays, respectively, is an intimate affair, accommodating up to 16 guests per sitting. From mid-afternoon, guests are guided through the diverse produce by Rowlands and Fitzpatrick, sharing anecdotes and sustainability practices integral to the farm’s operations.

The communal dining experience right after the tour presents a menu that boasts seasonal delights. Examples are Braised Lamb Shoulder Finished Over Coals and Grilled Baby Turnip with Bacon Fat and Roasted Garlic.

Since its establishment in 2011, Our Farm has expanded threefold, becoming the cornerstone of Rogan’s farm-to-table ethos and supplying not only the local Lake District establishments like L’Enclume, Rogan & Co, Henrock, and Aulis Cartmel but also Aulis in London. For those wishing to immerse themselves fully in the Our Farm experience, Monday bookings include an overnight stay in one of the Simon Rogan rooms in Cartmel, complete with a Home by Simon Rogan breakfast box, while Tuesdays are reserved for lunch only.
