East London welcomes TA-KO, a new Asian-inspired taco restaurant in Stoke Newington

Officially launching today,TA-KO, a new Asian-inspired restaurant in Stoke Newington is the latest venture from the team behind the popular Stoke Newington cocktail bar, Victory Mansion. The establishment aims to offer a dining experience that blends vibrant Asian flavours with the traditional Mexican taco.

The concept behind TA-KO is the brainchild of founders Mike Etessam-Rogers, Niall Downey, and Stuart Binks, who have pooled their extensive hospitality experience to create a menu that marries the casual, street-food style of Mexican taquerias with the rich tastes of Asian cuisine. Head chef Jesse Cecchetto, a six-year veteran of the team, has crafted a selection of dishes that features standout creations such as Blackened River Trout with smoked aubergine nahm prik, Palm Sugar Glazed Beef Short Rib, and Crispy Cauliflower layered on black bean & tamarind ragu, avocado and pepper mayo. Alongside, there are Ceviche Tostadas and Kare Kare Crispy Sushi Rice, together with gluten-free tacos and options for vegan and vegetarian diners.

The restaurant itself boasts a contemporary design with an Asian aesthetic, comprising bench seating, feature wallpaper, and rattan chairs. A downstairs area offers a private space for parties and events, including a kitchen table seating of 16 guests for a more intimate dining experience. The outdoor terrace provides a relaxed setting for enjoying a drink in the sun.

The cocktail menu, developed by Stuart Binks, puts a creative twist on classic recipes, incorporating seasonal trends and unusual ingredients. Current offerings include the Apple Cinnamon Scotch, prepared with scotch, apple and cinnamon syrups, topped with a dash of peychaud’s bitters, and Apricot & Smoke, made with encantado mezcal base, apricot brandy, Campari and fresh lemon zest, alongside a selection of wines and mocktails to cater to all tastes.

Located at 18 Stoke Newington High Street, TA-KO is open from Tuesday to Saturday, and reflects the team’s passion for fusion cuisine and their commitment to providing an engaging and diverse culinary experience.
