Brendan Fraser and Andrew Scott to star in WWII drama Pressure about D-Day’s critical weather forecast

In a joint announcement from STUDIOCANAL and Working Title, it was revealed that Academy Award winner Brendan Fraser is set to star in the upcoming World War II drama, Pressure. Fraser, celebrated for his role in The Whale among others, will portray Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D Eisenhower. He will be joined by BAFTA Award winner Andrew Scott, known for his roles in Fleabag and Ripley, who has been cast as Britain’s chief meteorological officer James Stagg.

The film, which is to be directed by Anthony Maras of Hotel Mumbai fame, is slated to begin shooting in the UK this coming September. Pressure is based on the true events leading up to D-Day, focusing on the critical role that weather played in the planning of the monumental invasion. The screenplay, penned by Olivier award-winner David Haig and Anthony Maras, draws from Haig’s critically acclaimed play of the same name, which saw success in London’s West End and was performed for world leaders and Her Majesty The Queen on the 75th anniversary of D-Day in 2019.

Set in the tense 72 hours before D-Day, the narrative centres on the crucial and highly pressured forecast by Britain’s chief meteorological officer, James Stagg. The film explores the challenges faced by Stagg and the allied leadership, highlighting the potential disaster of a wrong weather forecast on the largest seaborne invasion in history. With the fate of millions and the course of the war hanging in the balance, the decision ultimately rests with Eisenhower, portrayed by Fraser.

STUDIOCANAL is handling worldwide sales for Pressure, which promises to be a gripping addition to the war drama genre, combining historical significance with the personal stories of those who shaped the outcome of World War II.

Fraser, whose career has seen a resurgence following his Academy Award win, brings a depth of experience to the role of Eisenhower. His co-star, Scott, adds further gravitas, making Pressure one of the most anticipated films in the coming year.

This announcement marks another significant collaboration between STUDIOCANAL and Working Title, with Pressure offering audiences a unique perspective on the events leading up to D-Day through the lens of those tasked with one of the most crucial decisions of the war.
