Inception Group to open 1940s post office-themed bar in London’s Borough Yards

Inception Group will open a new bar, Cahoots: Postal Office, on 11th October in Borough Yards, near the iconic Borough Market in London. The venue is the latest addition to the Cahoots Network and is inspired by a 1940s post office. This new establishment will offer guests an immersive experience with interactive elements and inventive cocktail presentations, all set within a converted railway arch.

The design of Cahoots: Postal Office transports visitors back to 1946, where it imagines a group of characters known as The Cahoots Scoundrels have taken over a mail depot. The venue features a front resembling a post office – after which there will be a Postie greeting visitors at the overflowing mail counter – leading to a bustling two-floor sorting area through a postbox entrance. The space can accommodate up to 80 seated guests or 120 standing for private events and will include particularly set-up seating options such as repurposed mail sack chairs and a converted mail train cart.

In typical Inception Group style, interactive elements will be scattered throughout: from hidden mechanical controls to functional buttons that will impact the sound, lighting and general operation of the location. Decorative elements will include suspicious rattling parcels, carrier pigeons and even an exotic airmail freight from Cuba containing Winston Churchill’s favourite cigars. Maurice, the beloved post office cat, will be keeping a watchful eye over the sorting area.

A standout feature will be a pneumatic tube system, a first of its kind, designed to deliver cocktails directly to the tables from the bar. The cocktail selection includes drinks such as This Way Up with Patrón Silver tequila, Signed, Sealed, Delivered with Bombay Sapphire gin, and Par Avion with Grey Goose L’ Original vodka.

The site also houses The Dead Letter Depot on the mezzanine level, a space wrapped with undelivered parcels that trigger an anti-theft alarm when tampered with. Patrons can also enjoy the Tea Corner, where repurposed telephone switchboards play recordings of 1946 gossip and secret dispatches.

The original Cahoots (13 Kingly Ct, Carnaby) launched in 2015 and is modelled on a disused underground tube station in Soho circa 1946.
