China Tang opens new dim sum outlet at Harrods ahead of 20th anniversary

Cantonese restaurant China Tang, originally based inside The Dorchester, has recently opened a new outlet within the prestigious Harrods Dining Hall. The expansion titled Dim Sum by China Tang lands as the restaurant approaches its 20th anniversary in 2025.

The latest Harrods location offers a mix of 14 savoury and two sweet dim sum dishes. These include luxury items such as scallop dumplings topped with caviar, truffle and shiitake mushroom bao, and Wagyu taro puffs. Additionally, signature dishes from the Park Lane menu, like the Roast Duck and Stir-fried A5 Wagyu Beef in Black Pepper Sauce, are available.

The interior of Dim Sum by China Tang has been designed to complement the historic Art Deco features of the Harrods Dining Hall, while also aligning with the aesthetic of its original location at The Dorchester. The new venture is managed by Head Chef James Xia, who has over 30 years of experience in Cantonese cuisine and has worked across some of the finest restaurants including at Le Chinois in Knightsbridge, alongside dim sum specialist Chef He, who has been with China Tang since 2019.

Nathalie Ford, VP of Europe and Middle East for China Tang, has expressed her enthusiasm about the opening. She commented: “We are thrilled to bring Dim Sum by China Tang to Harrods in what marks the beginning of an exciting five-year partnership. This collaboration embodies our commitment to partnering with the best of the best, and we are especially grateful to Ford Consultancy for facilitating this deal.”

Located on the ground floor of the luxury department store, the dining space offers 25 covers, providing a contemporary yet refined setting. The restaurant also features a selection of fine wines, premium teas like Iron Goddess, and tea-based cocktails and non-alcoholic options, such as the Tang Tea Punch.

China Tang at The Dorchester was established in 2015 by the late Sir David Tang. Known for its signature Peking Duck and extensive selection of over 30 different Dim Sum, the Mayfair destination offers a gastronomic experience steeped in tradition, transporting guests into the 1930s Shangai. Head Chef Chong Choi Fong oversees all the brand’s London kitchens.

Following Sir David Tang’s passing in 2017, China Tang has continued to thrive under the stewardship of Lai Sun Dining, the operating shareholder. A leading Hong Kong-based hospitality group and part of the Lai Sun Group, Lai Sun Dining is chaired by Dr Peter Lam and operates over 20 distinctive brands across 25 venues worldwide, entailing as well a portfolio of 8 Michelin stars.
