Mathew Leong of three-Michelin-starred Re-Naa to cook two dinners in London with Orientalist Spirits

The Orientalist Spirits, a pioneering all-Asian craft spirits company, is preparing to enter the UK market with a unique culinary event featuring Mathew Leong of three-Michelin-star Re-Naa. An Evening with Chef Mathew Leong will be held on the 28th and 29th of November 2024 at the COMO Metropolitan London in Mayfair. The exclusive dining experience will showcase a menu of Nordic seafood with Asian influences, paired with bespoke cocktails from The Orientalist Spirits.

Chef Leong, known for his tenure at the renowned Re-Naa in Norway, will curate the menu. The evening will commence with a dish of Hamachi Crudo, a refreshing start featuring buttery yellowtail with fermented yuzu, wasabi, and verbena oil. This will be paired with a cocktail named Dill, which includes dill-infused Orientalist Gunpowder Gin and other select ingredients.

Following the opener, guests will enjoy King Crab Chawanmushi, an egg custard with Asiatic shellfish espuma and ikura, complemented by Iribancha, a cocktail blending various infusions including Orientalist Origins Vodka and tom yam. The third course features BBQ Hand-Dived Scallop with a Nordic XO sauce and spruce oil, paired with Pear, a cocktail that includes pear-infused vodka and vintage calvados.

The main course will be Monkfish on The Bone, enhanced with seabuckthorn koshu and morel mushrooms, and served alongside Hojicha, a cocktail made with hojicha tea, apricot liqueur, and Orientalist Dragon Whisky. The meal concludes with a dessert of Pumpkin Ice Cream spiced with Timut pepper and paired with Flower, a cocktail featuring flower-infused rum and other ingredients.

The event marks a significant milestone for The Orientalist Spirits as it introduces its range of premium spirits to the UK. The company’s portfolio includes Origins Vodka, Gunpowder Gin, Dragon Whisky, and Imperial Rum. Each spirit will be showcased through bespoke beverages crafted by mixologists Kaoru Takii from Mixology Salon Japan and Francis Madrigal, head mixologist at COMO.

Tickets for this exclusive dining experience are priced at £275 and can be purchased through COMOclub or directly from COMO Metropolitan London. This event provides an opportunity for guests to enjoy a fusion of Asian and Nordic culinary traditions, paired expertly with innovative craft cocktails.
