British musician Rebecca Lucy Taylor, known by her stage name Self Esteem, has released a new single titled If Not Now, It’s Soon. The track, which premiered as BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record, is now available for streaming and download, accompanied by a music video directed by Piers Dennis. The song reflects on Taylor’s pre-fame years marked by tumultuous experiences, as she contemplates the choices made during that period.

The single is part of her upcoming album, A Complicated Woman, set to be released on 25th April 2025 through Polydor Records. This album follows her critically acclaimed 2021 album Prioritise Pleasure, which was nominated for both the BRIT and Mercury Prize and named Album of the Year by The Guardian and The Sunday Times.

In addition to the new music, Self Esteem has announced her most extensive UK tour to date, spanning 14 dates across the UK and Ireland this autumn. The tour includes performances in major cities such as London, Manchester, Glasgow and Dublin, with tickets going on general sale on 28th March. Fans who pre-order the album will have early access to the pre-sale tickets.

If Not Now, It’s Soon draws from Taylor’s personal experiences and broader societal issues, encapsulating themes of hope, perseverance and patience. The song features a poignant spoken word section by actress Julie Hesmondhalgh, a close friend of Taylor, emphasising the need for both personal and collective progress.

The upcoming album A Complicated Woman promises a blend of introspective lyrics and vibrant soundscapes, featuring contributions from numerous artists including Nadine Shah, Moonchild Sanelly and Sue Tompkins. The record aims to explore themes of self-empowerment and resilience, continuing Taylor’s trend of embedding powerful messages within her music.

Self Esteem’s rise to prominence has been marked by a distinctive approach to music and performance, blending pop sensibilities with candid, narrative-driven lyrics. Her work often addresses complex aspects of modern womanhood, from personal identity to societal expectations.

The announcement of A Complicated Woman and the accompanying UK tour highlights Taylor’s ongoing evolution as an artist and her commitment to using her platform to discuss pertinent issues. With her new projects, Self Esteem continues to challenge norms and inspire her audience through a unique musical and lyrical style.
