Islington’s Little Bat Bar unveils new menu from chef James Cochran

Little Bat Bar in Islington will unveil a new restaurant menu on Wednesday the 7th May, with chef James Cochran joining as chef consultant. The new offering, which also includes an updated wine and cocktail list, aims to highlight British produce through globally inspired dishes.

The initiative is led by Little Bat’s founder Richard Wynne. James Cochran has collaborated with Wynne and the Little Bat team to curate a menu that complements the bar’s refined cocktails proposal. The dishes will feature a variety of starters, such as Warm Toasted Sourdough served with whipped butters—gravy or malt vinegar—alongside Toasted Truffle Bread Pudding with Isle of Mull cheese and Guinness. Cochran’s infamous Crisp Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Jerk-spiced Hot Honey Glaze will also be among the opening courses, as well as Beer Battered Oysters from Whitstable, served with Bresaola ox sauce.

For the mains, guests can expect options like Jerk Spiced Slow Braised Shoulder of Mangalitza Pork, accompanied by Chanon Beni Chimichurri and Sweetcorn, and Crisp Potato Dumplings with Wild Mushrooms and Wild Garlic Sauce. Another mouth-watering dish in the list will be Cured and Torched Cornish Mackerel, served with hazelnut tahini, lardo and grapefruit. Dessert selections will entail Aged Berkswell Basque Cheesecake with Fermented Grapes and Chocolate Mousse with Cherries.

The drinks menu will see both traditional concoctions such as Martinis and Margaritas, next to new creations like the Tokyo Drift, combining Tidal rum and Rosso vermouth with orange and seaweed. Other additions are the Loosen Mai Tai, made with Cuban rum, Discarded Banana rum, coconut and Alma Finca orange liqueur, and the Pop Tart, a milk punch-style cocktail with three tequilas, cherry and kefir. The bar will continue to offer a broad range of wines, beers, and non-alcoholic alternatives.

Little Bat Bar, which opened nine years ago and is the sister venue to Callooh Callay, which distinguished itself for its creative cocktails and lively atmosphere.
