The Conjuring: Last Rites – Occult Museum Experience

The Conjuring: Last Rites – Occult Museum Experience | Exhibition review

The Conjuring franchise has added a new strand to its universe with the upcoming feature film The Conjuring: Last Rites, with Patrick Wilson (Ed Warren) and Vera Farmiga (Lorraine Warren) reprising their roles as paranormal investigators. Michael Chaves also returns as the director for this ninth and final instalment, and as the horror film seeps through audiences who are fans of the genre, a free pop-up Occult Museum experience stands alongside this release, set deep in the heart of Shoreditch, London, at White Rabbit Studios.

The immersive museum aims to recreate the hidden artefact room of the investigative couple and once you pass the initial entranceway of flickering candelabras and glass cabinets of occult trinkets, guests are deposited into a creepy holding room to listen to the investigators original audio tape before being avidly greeted by an animated local vicar and his assistant who aim to spook you with interactive finds but also guide you painlessly through the short-lived event.

If jump-scares and strobe lights are not your thing then you can politely put your hand up, call out the word “Unicorn” and leave it behind, but if you’re partial to enjoy being frightened then you can enjoy around fifty artefacts from the franchise that include the haunted Annabelle Doll, photos of the Nun spin-off movie and the original spooky musical jewellery box. Guests of this experience will also enjoy darting through swathes of white billowing curtains to escape from the other horrors that await.

Careful to keep the groups small to maximise the impact, the event is kitch with horror undertones and makes for a welcome addition for fans of The Conjuring world. It’s probably not worth going out of your way for, as it’s over quite quickly, but if you visit the cinema nearby to watch the new feature, then this will certainly help fuel a dreadful night’s sleep.
