A new Italian-style café specialising in handcrafted doughnuts and brioche sandwiches has opened in the heart of London. Bombolone Doughnuts, founded by Sonia and Paweł, is now operating at 21 Whitcomb Street in Piccadilly, offering a menu inspired by the couple’s travels through Tuscany.

The café focuses on bombolone – a type of filled Italian doughnut traditionally made with brioche dough. Each doughnut is made fresh daily by a team of bakers who begin work at 4am. Bombolone’s menu features a range of flavours, each filled and decorated with various creams, glazes, and toppings. Among these, there are Pistachio Amore (pistachio cream, white chocolate glaze, and pistachio drizzle), Vanillissimo (vanilla cream inside, white chocolate on top) and Apple Pie di Nonna (serving classic apple pie vibes with spiced apple, caramel and buttery cookie crunch).

In addition to sweet offerings, Bombolone also serves a selection of brioche sandwiches. Options include Pastrami Bravo with mustard and rocket, Salmone Perfetto with whipped cheese and dill, and Mozzarella Classica with tomato, basil and balsamic vinegar. The café also offers tiramisu and a range of seasonal drinks.

Coffee plays a central role in the menu. Bombolone presents a signature blend roasted by Moresso Coffee Roasters, using Arabica beans sourced from Brazil, Nicaragua, and Ethiopia. The beans are roasted in small batches to preserve their flavour profile, which includes chocolate notes and fruity undertones. For those keen on a sweet take, there are affogatos – espresso poured over ice cream – in pistachio and salted caramel varieties.

The founders, Sonia and Paweł, say the idea for Bombolone was born out of a desire to recreate the flavours they discovered while travelling. “We fell in love with bombolone while travelling through Tuscany,” they said. “Determined to bring that joy to London, we created Bombolone with a menu full of flavours, surprises, and Italian sunshine.”

The café is located a short walk from Leicester Square and Trafalgar Square, within one of London’s busiest tourist and shopping districts.
