Chef NattyCanCook returning to HMP Brixton this November for one-night charity dinner with Clink trainees

Acclaimed chef Nathaniel Mortley, known professionally as NattyCanCook, will return to HMP Brixton on Thursday 13th November for a special one-night-only dining event at The Clink Restaurant. The event, hosted by The Clink Charity, will feature a multi-course meal inspired by Mortley’s pan-Caribbean culinary style, co-created with current Clink trainees. The aim is to raise funds and awareness for the charity’s work in reducing reoffending through vocational training and employment opportunities for people in custody.

November’s dinner will take place between 5.30 and 8.30pm, with all proceeds going towards supporting the charity’s initiatives, which include training in prison kitchens and gardens, as well as operating public-facing restaurants and catering services. In 2024, the charity trained over 800 people in prison and delivered 650 NVQ qualifications, and the Brixton restaurant goes from strength to strength, having received both Gold Accreditation from People 1st International and an AA Highly Commended College Rosette.

Mortley, a former Clink trainee himself, discovered his passion for cooking while serving time at HMP Brixton. Since his release, he has carved out a successful career in the hospitality industry, culminating in the October 2025 launch of his own restaurant, 2210, in Herne Hill. His work has been widely praised, including being named “one to watch” in Condé Nast Traveller’s UK Top New Restaurant Awards.

The dinner is part of The Clink’s chef collaboration series, which sees established chefs return to work with current trainees. In addition to preparing the evening’s menu, Mortley will speak to guests about his personal journey from prison to professional success.During his time at HMP Brixton, Mortley won The Clink’s Young Chef of the Year award, and this year, he returned to the competition as a judge. He was also recently appointed as the charity’s first-ever youth ambassador, honouring him as an inspiration to others facing similar challenges.
