Liu Xiaomian launches winter noodle pop-up at The Stranded pub in Aldwych

Liu Xiaomian, the London-based noodle brand founded by sisters Charlene and Linda Liu, has launched a new winter pop-up at The Stranded pub on the Strand. Opening next Friday, the collaboration brings the duo’s signature Chongqing-style noodles to central London for a limited time – and, to mark the occasion, the first 66 bowls served at the lunchtime opening will be given away for free!

Hosting the pop-up is the recently opened watering hole that seats around 300 people, with a dedicated 20-cover dining section allocated for Liu Xiaomian’s offering. The guest menu features the brand’s well-known spicy dishes, such as Chongqing Xiaomian (wheat noodles), Hot & Sour Glass Noodles made with sweet potato starch, and pork wontons. Each is topped with their homemade chilli oil, which has become a hallmark of the restaurant’s cooking.

Charlene and Linda Liu, originally from Chongqing (widely regarded as China’s spice capital), founded Liu Xiaomian in 2017. What began as a street-food stall has since developed into a growing presence in the capital’s food scene, with a basement residency at The Jackalope pub in Marylebone and a recently opened restaurant in Kingly Court, Carnaby. “We’ve loved working with the team behind The Jackalope, and The Stranded feels like the perfect next step,” said Charlene. “It’s a stylish new pub with vast amounts of seating in central London, perfect for everyone visiting the Strand this winter.” Linda added, “Our noodles have always been about comfort, fresh ingredients and a menu that’s accessible to everyone. We offer a range of dishes with varying spice levels – customers often find it funny that I personally go for the mild option, while Charlene opts for extra hot! That’s the beauty of our bowls: something for everyone, bold, vibrant and made to share.”

In addition to the noodle dishes, visitors to the pub near Charing Cross can pair meals with in-house bubble tea or their Czech-style beer. The venue also plans to introduce a coffee robot in the coming weeks. The Liu Xiaomian kitchen at The Stranded will operate Thursdays to Saturdays, from 12 to 2.30pm and 6 to 9pm.
