A newly opened pub on the King’s Road is marking this year’s Chelsea Flower Show and the local area’s Chelsea in Bloom festival with a star-themed floral installation, a dedicated cocktail list and a three-course seasonal menu, running from 18th to 24th May.

The Trafalgar is billed as the first new pub to open on the King’s Road in over a century. Taking part in Chelsea in Bloom for the first time, the establishment joins neighbours along the King’s Road and surrounding streets in interpreting this year’s Out of this World intergalactic theme, representing space and the cosmos through floral design. The pub’s programme for May draws inspiration from the historical practice of celestial navigation – the method by which sailors once used the stars to chart their course at sea. Chelsea in Bloom runs alongside the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and sees businesses across the area compete in a floral decorating competition judged by a panel of industry figures.

The Trafalgar team have partnered with McQueens, a florist with an established reputation in the events and floral design industry. Their resulting display, which will adorn the King’s Road entrance, incorporates a multi-textile structure alongside fynbos flowers, including King Protea and Blushing Bride varieties. The installation will also feature a moon garden – a collection of flowers that bloom after dark – intended to highlight the night sky and its stars.

The accompanying cocktail menu includes a Polaris Sour, made with ABA pisco, lime juice, demerara sugar and egg white, and a Starlight Spritz combining prosecco, St Germain elderflower liqueur, lemon, mint and soda water.

The three-course food menu features starters such as gin-cured chalk stream trout with pickled cucumber, and English asparagus with broad bean purée and toasted Kentish cobnuts. Main course options include roast hake with samphire, Jersey Royals and beurre blanc, alongside a wild garlic and morel risotto with pea shoots and olive oil. Desserts include a Pink Fizz, blueberry and viola jelly and an elderflower posset with strawberries and shortbread. Each course is offered with matched wines.

Tom Peake, owner of the Three Cheers Pub Co, which operates The Trafalgar, commented on the upcoming horticultural festivities: “Chelsea has always been renowned for its rich history with the stars. As this is our first festival, we are delighted to be able to take this to the next level. Chelsea in Bloom is a magical celebration and something we are proud to be part of.”
