Mike McEvoy at 606 Club

Mike McEvoy at 606 Club | Live review

Michael McEvoy: a composer, orchestrator, songwriter and a multi-instrumentalist – a capable, impassioned musician who has worked on popular movies such as Me and Orson Welles and indie feature Forget Me Not.

His new album The Long Way Home is to be released on vinyl and digital download this week. He was promoting it at the launch in the 606 Club in Chelsea on Wednesday night; the club on Lots Road currently celebrating its 25th anniversary.

The Long Way Home is an album of new compositions, featuring collaborations with British jazz musicians, including the likes of Nigel Hitchcock, Freddie Gavita and Ben Castle. Award-winning McEvoy has been in the business for over 20 years and has built rapport with the artists featured on the album, leading him to want them to “bring their magic to my music.” The material McEvoy has been creating has stemmed over three years, and this will be his third CD. The music itself has been engineered by the same man, Nick Taylor, who has worked on all the film scores of McEvoy’s over the past four years at the London studio Air Edel.

Encompassing the tradition of jazz, the musicians recorded live. Arguing that this music “needs to be heard in that way,” McEvoy’s passion for music is clear. A self-motivated creation, this album promises a realised accessibility to this special style.
