The Jezabels at Shepherd’s Bush Empire

The Jezabels at Shepherd’s Bush Empire | Live review

When front woman Hayley Mary struts onto the stage with the rest of the band bouncing on beside her, the crowd begins to progressively cheer. Some in the audience haven’t even noticed the set has begun, until several lights beam down onto each individual band member.

The track Endless Summer really stood out, showcasing the singer’s vocal talent. Her range is overwhelming, and the dancing was certainly captivating. It seems like no one can take their eyes off her as she gallops around the stage, flailing from one side to the other, a somewhat entertaining sight when paired with her incredible voice.

As the band play the opening chords to their latest single Look of Love, taken from their new album The Brink, the crowd cheers piercingly – it’s clearly a popular song. Keyboard player Heather Shannon presented her outstanding work throughout the gig, drawing the most attention during this song’s instrumental section. Alongside guitarist Sam Lockwood and drummer Nik Kaloper, the three work brilliantly together, playing well in unison and the band on a whole are very tight.

As The Jezabels return for an encore of Easy to Love, it’s clear that their fan base is strong as everybody sways and sings along enthusiastically. The variety of old and new songs was a huge crowd pleaser, and despite the small(ish) venue, the four-piece took over the academy, delighting and entertaining their fans with a terrific set-list and a cool performance.
