Sub Focus at Brixton Academy

Sub Focus at Brixton Academy | Live review

Electronic dance has taken the crown of popular music in the 21st century. With its bass-heavy electronics and uplifting tone, it gets any one of any age up and dancing even if they’re feeling a little lethargic after a few beers.  Sub Focus came to Brixton Academy last night with his extraordinary talent and gave us what was without doubt one of the best shows in London of 2014 so far.

The venue was jam packed with folk young and old, there to witness some amazing and transient electronic music. The opening act featured some small-time DJs who catered to the fans’ need for drum and bass, but really it wasn’t until Sub Focus came on at half past midnight that the venue started rocking.

With a stellar light show, outstanding acoustics and bass that vibrated up and down your body, the show was nothing short of perfect. Sub Focus’ tone encompassed a variety of different types of electronic music: some songs were heavy, some emotional and some just downright trippy. The crowd were going wild – not once did anyone shy away from letting loose to the groove.

The stage lit up with outstanding trippy visuals that scarily coincided with each mood of the song; everyone was lost within themselves, in a trance. Sub Focus’ vision of electronic music is stellar – it’s absolutely perfect for both newcomers and fans to enjoy live as it brings such happiness that gets you out of even the worst of moods.
