Lily Allen at Shepherd’s Bush Empire

An unusual and rather eccentric obsession with animated baby bottles filled with pills and milk was one of the few standouts of Lily Allen’s performance at Shepherd’s Bush Empire last night. The visuals on the screen behind her were abstract and conceptual, and coincided with the music; one of the many elements that made this sold-out show an absolute blast.

Lily Allen backed up her eccentricity with an amazing performance, promoting the release of her upcoming album Sheezus, and performing hits including Air Balloon and Hard Out Here. She wore several different outfits, but retained the multi-coloured velvet theme with one top and her hair tied up, resembling a genie or an exotic belly dancer. Her dancing was no different: she wooed us with her seductive moves. The audience responded to her every move and she did not disappoint.

Backed up with a live band, a few extra dancers, amazing lights and visuals, and a full sound made this one of the better shows so far this year. Lily Allen has a no-tolerance, middle-finger-in-your-face attitude, and doesn’t give a hoot what anyone thinks or says. She plays her music, she has passion and in turn the fans accept her, thus encouraging her to give back to us. The evening was highly entertaining and she certainly knows how to put on a good show, which makes her one of the most compelling pop artists today.
