Galerie De L’Epoque at Stephen Friedman Gallery | Exhibition review

Immersive artistic experiences can sometimes fail to adequately capture the imagination of visitors, but Galerie de l’Epoque succeeds in transporting the viewer back to a past by incorporating classical and contemporary artists from America, Europe, Japan and South America amidst the aesthetic of a bygone era.

galeriedel'epoqueThe fictional gallery, set in Paris in the 1950s, evokes the décor of renowned spaces. It incorporates French period furniture, historical wallpaper and specific paint palettes, offering insight into the unique collaboration between curator and designer.

The art on display impressively includes works from Picasso, Miro, and Kandinsky, as well as pieces from other leading artists. Each setup within the gallery offers a feast of artefacts and works that create a glimpse into modernism and postmodernism, a tradition still utilised in the world of art to this day.

Galerie de l’Epoque is a delight for those appreciative of historical and contemporary art from leading international sources, and the achievement of synergy that can be created between the two. Visitors will emerge feeling as if they have had an exclusive journey into history, providing insight into the works of present and past, and how across the 20th and 21st centuries these pieces have transposed the test of time.
