The Enemy at The Forum

The Enemy, a three-piece indie rock band formed in Coventry in 2006, gave a bombastic performance at The Forum last night.

“Now this song… is about, is about, is about you.” The evening’s songs were all about the audience, as the band sang to and for them. This performance was for the fans and the band were completely dedicated to entertaining them. All of The Forum danced along to the melodies as the crowd shouted, clapped their hands and stomped their feet to the dynamic tracks without missing a single beat.

Opening with It’s Automatic – the first single from their eponymous fourth studio album – Tom, Andy and Liam shaped the short, yet intense, evening around tracks that set the audience free on the wet dance floor. Without taking a break, the band turned the evening into a nonstop frenzy of absorbing energy. The trio followed with other well-known songs such as Had Enough, Be Somebody, Away from Here, all showcasing stunning guitar skills and an impressive vocal extension from Birmingham-born frontman Tom Clarke.

This energy built up to the highlight of the night: This Song. The words “now this song….is about, is about, is about you” resonated throughout the venue for three minutes after the track finished, as the crowd repeated the phrase a cappella, singing loud enough to overpower the band. The chanting continued for the rest of the night: between other tracks, to beg the band for more when the technical staff were already packing up and on the walk from the venue to the tube, and in the station itself.

An enthusiastic, honest and dedicated performance that set The Forum on fire, this was an experience that brought a large crowd together with inspiring lyrics and energetic tunes.
